Police name dead man
POLICE have confirmed the identity a man found dead in Grizedale Forest as being a 57-year-old former prison officer from Barrow.
The body of Ian Mark Grigg, of Lesh Lane, was discovered on December 7 on Crag Close by members of the Duddon and Furness and Coniston Mountain Rescue teams.
An inquest is due to be opened by South Lakeland coroner Ian Smith in the next few days and police are not treating the death as suspicious. Mr Grigg, who had been missing for three days, had worked as a trades officer at Haverigg Prison, near Millom, until 1996, when he retired for medical reasons.
A spokesperson for the prison said: "Those who remember Mr Grigg were shocked when they found out."
