KENDAL Town boss Lee Ashcroft was looking ahead this week after steering the club to a third season of Premier Division football, writes Richard Daniels.

Town finished in 11th pos-ition in the league table after wrapping up the season with a 2-1 defeat at Guiseley last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ashcroft revealed that Football League side Carlisle United had agreed to send a team to the Lakeland Radio Stadium.

Ashcroft said: "I've spoken to Carlisle manager John Ward and got Carlisle's first team coming to us for a pre-season friendly on Friday, July 11.

"I am also waiting on Everton, Preston, Stockport and Rochdale to come back to me.

"There will be an exciting set of games to get us primed for the start of the new season."

Ashcroft revealed that he has signed up Town goalkeeper David Newnes for another term at the club.

"I've signed Newnes on a year's contract - I do believe I've got the best keeper in the Unibond Premier Division.

"He's been magnificent every game he's played for me and a top lad as well."

One of Ashcroft's successful signings has been Carl Osman, brother of the Everton midfielder Leon Osman, and Ashcroft said: "I've spoken to Carl and sorted out a deal with him - he wants to stay and hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be signing him up."

Ashcroft said he would be holding talks with the players in the next few weeks and also confirm his personal future with the club.

"We've worked hard over the past few months to get things right and I've enjoyed it and don't want to go anywhere else, and hopefully we can sort something out."

Kendal Town's official presentation dinner take place at the Castle Green Hotel on Saturday evening.

Steve Kindon (ex-Burnley, Wolves and Huddersfield) is the guest speaker. Sir Tom Finney, Town's club president, will be the guest of honour.
