BIKERS from Barrow are to join a protest ride to fight the planned closures of motor cycle testing centres throughout Cumbria - and Barrow in particular.
The local bike centre is scheduled to cease work in October and be replaced by one of a series of 'Multi-Purpose Test Centres' throughout the country.
But the closest centres to Barrow will be at Carlisle or Blackburn, both more than 70 miles - or two hours ride - away.

Motor cyclists from all over the North West are expected to back the protest ride starting at 10am on Sunday, May 11, from the motor cycle test centre in Ironworks Road, Barrow.
Petitions will be offered for signing from 9.30am before the bikers set off to ride to the planned multi-test centre at Port Road, Carlisle, meeting more protestors en route at Whitehaven.
A spokesman for the bike groups says: "We are petitioning the Driving Standards Agency to reconsider its decision and to continue motor cycle testing at both sites in compliance with its own policy that says motor cycle test customers should be able to reach their nearest centre within 20 minutes travelling time or no more than 20 miles."
