Morecambe v Leyland
3D Sports Northern Premier Cricket League
THE rain robbed Morecambe of the chance to topple Northern League leaders Leyland as they had to settle for the most frustrating of losing draws.
The locals were coasting as they chased down Leyland's 167-8 and it looked for all the world as though the visitors would be beaten for the first time this season.
But they lost 18 overs of their reply - and that cost them dear.
Mark Lomas won the toss and put Leyland in but the visitors got off to a good start through openers Karl Cross (38) and Chris Parkinson (23), although Ian Farrington and Peter Cummings were sent back cheaply.
Professional Ameer Khan was the mainstay of the Leyland innings as he made 42 to help his men to a respectable score.

Morecambe paid man Bruce Martin was the best bowler with figures of 4-50 from 20 tight overs while Graham Lee chipped in with a couple of wickets.
The locals started with poise and Vishnal Goyal (30), Phil Thornton (19) and Mark Woodhead (22) all got going.
But the weather was the real winner as some 18 overs were lost meaning Phil Dennison's unbeaten 21 couldn't see his side home.
It was frustrating as they were just 25 runs short of victory when time ran out.
